APRECIATION

I am totally loving Revive our Hearts. I am listening to the testimony of Kimberly Wagner. She shares practical tips on how to make a safe space for husband using the acronym "APRECIATION"

  1. ADMIRE him
  2. PRAY in love, pray specifically, regularly- find specific scriptures to use in prayer e.g. Psalm 92; pray positively
  3. REMEMBER THE GOOD, RELEASE THE BAD- practice forgiveness
  4. ENCOURAGE- I know decision making is hard, but I am behind you, I know you are trying to do the best you can, I know you care, I know you can do it,
hmm the programe ends without the rest of the acronym.. will update when I find it

What happened to the 'random thoughts about me' page?

I am one of those people who love words. And I love when I find the words that precisely articulate how I may have been feeling but could not put down in black and white. Around 8 or so years ago (oh my goodness!) I was so inspired to read the Random facts on one blogger whose writing has inspired me on and off. I remember scribbling away in my journal feeling that yummy sense of satisfaction to have found words. When writing for this blog, the first I have ever had, I typed out what I wrote back then without doing it my way. Today I learnt my error and I am only too happy to take down the page. I believe in citing but fact is, I can't describe me better than she did. HA! So if you want to know random things about me, said better than I could say myself, head here and read Amy's list and around half of them apply to me without edit. HAHA.

So first of all I would like to publicly apologize for plagiarising Amy's thoughts (albeit unkowingly) and once again encourage all blog readers to let me know if I have not cited something or cited wrongly and I would be happy to correct it. Thankfully I didn't dream of my wedding for years and years, so all my inspiration is current and immediately cited. Let your first assumption be tech incompetence, case in point being I think I have deleted all my pages in the process of deleting one page. Goodness me.

Anyways, please head off to Amy's blog and get inspired by her gratitude list and her stories on motherhood which have been helpful to think through especially now 3 months prior to my big day. wohoo.

28 step wedding planning checklist

Note: It takes around 250 hours to plan a wedding, that equates to six weeks full time work

Again, with continued learning, and overly detailed checklists that were not as helpful to me, I continue to refine the plan of action for our own use and hopefully something that will help others to come. So, in order of priority:
  1. Budget
  2. Date
  3. Guest list
  4. Location/ Venue- ceremony, reception, photo-shoot/first night accomodation
  5. Save the date

  7. Decide: Colour scheme/ style/theme of wedding
  8. Team: Officiant
  9. Get: Wedding license and other legal paper work
  10. Team: Bridal party (bridesmaids, best man, maid of honour, ushers,)

Nothing just happens

Pain makes you relatable- you don't know why i am till you've been where I have been

God has done more through my struggles than he has done in my successes and my successes have the ingredients of my struggles

You have to choose people who have gone through pain

Need to make sense of the madness- since you can't change it, you need to know that it wasn't for nothing.. it's part of bringing closure, not having unresolved issues from the past..

Nothing just happens! There is a reason why it happened Because, a) God didn't fall asleep on the job b) the steps of a righteous man are ordered by God

God never sleeps or slumbers, He is in complete control.

Orpah decided to walk away from Ruth and Naomi.

When people walk away from you, let them walk because your destiny is not tied to the one who left- they come out from us that it might be made manifest that that they were not of us..

You have got to know when it's over- David's child died, he washed his face..

As the Lord liveth I shall not live thee..Sensing that your destiny is linked to that person i.e. you will not be able to write your story and leave me out

Lessons learned along the way...

What's most important is not so much what you are waiting for (the destination) but what you lean and become along the way.

Isaiah celebrates the waiting place- they that wait upon the Lord

When you get to your destination, all you will want to talk about are the lessons you learnt along the way!

Experience teaches patience

When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all He has done for me, my soul cries out halleluyah

Anybody will follow you to a better place, you have to be a great leader for someone to follow you to a desert place..Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him

A desert place: where no water is, no trees, a place of barreness, brokeness

They followed Him into the desert place and suddenly there was a problem...In His presence but still have Problems! Why? They that live godly shall suffer persecution.. you get on the enemy's hit list because you are effective. Why should the devil fight who he has already got! That's why the closer you get to Jesus the more the enemy tries to attack you

Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the author and the finisher.. If God started it, He will complete it..

The older disciple were able to articulate the problem but did not have the solution, the younger child had the solution but was not aware of the problem. God will humble you to make you learn how to work with someone who is different from you to get the job done.

Another example: Samuel could hear God calling him but could not understand, Eli could no longer hear God's call but was able to understand the content- they had to come together... Let's get together and get the job done.

You need not depart- everything you need is somewhere around you, it's in the house!

Miracles begin when you admit, Lord, I don't have enough- all I have is 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread=7--> God's number of completion!

Jesus told the disciples to sit the 5000 hungry people down in groups of 50 and 100...What's he teaching them? patience and order! God does not respond to your emergency when you are hysterical- you MUST calm down and get yourself together.. God is waiting on you to calm down so that he can release the miracle..

Every time you see others get blessed you need to rejoice not be jealous  because you are next in line for the blessing

Some things are natural but just because they are natural doesn't mean they come easy e.g. breast feeding

He took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it- that's what He does with you! Takes you, blesses you, breaks you and then serves you to the world

God multiplies you in the breaking!!- Joseph broken in the pit, Paul broken at damascus, Peter broken after denying the Lord...

What you have left is enough for God to use

It was good for me to be afflicted for had I not been afflicted, I would have never seen

Grass in the desert! He maketh me lie down in green pastures...God will create a green place in your desert

Notes I made for the sermon GROWING IN THE DARK by TD Jakes

Samson was the 12th judge of the Israelite...12 is the number of authority or government e.g Jesus chose 12 disciples, 12 tribes of Israel

circumcision, speaking in tongues, and the growing of the hair by Nazarites was not the covenant, it was an outer sign of an inner covenant- i.e an outer sign of the inner condition of the heart

When God sets up a covenant He always gives an outer signs

God did not forbid marriage from other people for racial purity but for spiritual purity.

Paul picks it up and says be not unequally yoked believers with unbelievers- not that you are better, you have the same problems they do but you go to different places for help.

Samson married what he hated and hated what he married.. People who call others hypocrites are hypocritical in one area e..g you teach Debt consolidation and your credit cards are maxed up, teaching parenting and your own children went to jail...

When the philistines took his woman he went crazy... men go crazy when you take their women- even a cheating man will go crazy when you take his woman!

He went to the field and set the tail of foxes on fire and burnt up their crops- he didn't just burn down their food, he burned their money because it was a barter society they needed the food to get money.

They revenged by killing his wife and her father. Samson revenged by killing 10000 men..

You can never be tempted by that which you are full of, you are tempted by that which you never had enough of...

Delilah came into his life as a temptress because he was tired, the temptress always attacks when you are tired..

Be careful where you lay your head

The very first thing the enemy did was to remove his eyes, why? because without a vision the people perish. The worst man to get involved with is one without a vision.. how can I help you when you can't see where we are to go? Find a man with a vision!

As long as I have a VISION, PROVISION will follow! GET READY.

You MUST  have the vision BEFORE the provision arrives

Everything God ever used, went through a dark place. Abraham, Moses- 40 years in desert, Jacob- wrestling with angel.. It doesn't mean God has left you..

The dark place is a pre- requisite of greatness.

The dark place:  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for you are with me..

They shaved Samson's hair but they left the follicles/hair roots...growing in the dark!

Praise God because: The enemy that you see now, you shall not see again, and your latter days shall be greater than you former days

What is growing? My tenacity, my praise, getting testimony, regaining victory, the same one that went into the dark place is not the same one coming out,

God gave him a little boy- he didn't have the stregnth but he had the eyes; Samson didn't have the eyes but has the stregnth

GOD WILL BRING YOU OUT BY PARTNERING WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE

If any 2 of you agree as touching anything on earth, it shall be done!

You can't grow on the inside and not show on the outside!

A PRESSING PLACE... by TD Jakes

A pressing place is a place where the pressure bears down on you and you feel weight that you cannot even see!

If you want a big crowd around you, be at an eating place- 5000 people will come to eat with you but the numbers go down in a pressing place, not the 5000 not the 70 not even the 12, down to 3..

It separates the men and the boys, shows you who is with you and who is  not with you, who loves you and who doesn't love you.

Even Jesus had his pressing place, so who are you to think that you would be exempt from a pressing place?

If you are a follower of Jesus don't just follow for fish and loaves and water turned to wine..

You really don't have a PRAISE until you have been through a PRESSING PLACE, you really don't have a strong marriage, until you have been through a pressing place... you can tell how strong...

There's always a price to be paid for being anointed. There is no one who was greatly anointed that was not greatly crushed.

When you say Lord anoint me, the translation in heaven is Lord crush me because the oil of anointing comes out of the crushing!

When you say LORD BLESS ME you are saying LORD PRESS ME

You have got to PRAY your way through a pressing place

DARE: An hour of prayer per day.. Some people will drive an hour to go to work, an hour to do their nails or hair-the same people will not pray for one hour... could it be possible that our priorities are in the wrong place that we spend more time on entertainment than we do on edification?

It is not the number of people around you, it is the quality! You don't feel me till I cry when I cry, till you crawl when I crawl..

If you have been praying and you have not got the breakthrough you need, go on a little further/deeper. If Jesus had to go back to pray again, what would it hurt you to pray again?

The purpose of prayer is not to change God but to change me.. "Not my will but Yours be done".. a change in attitude, change in behaviour, change of walk, prayer will make you apologize even when you thought you were right, prayer will make you humble yourself... your will submits, you lose your desperate need for validation from people,

You can be nailed to a cross, buried in a grave but on the 3rd day you will rise again!
